This year, students and staff at Bellport Middle School spearheaded a food waste project. Led by teacher Lisa Dooley, the initiative aims to keep food out of the garbage by distributing leftover cafeteria snacks throughout the school day, before after-school sports programs and at the Empire program. Items are also delivered to the Boys & Girls Club. “It's a big job, with over 80 people working together toward a common goal,” said Dooley.
