Verne W. Critz Elementary School students recently concluded their Earth Day activities with a special assembly focused on the importance of recycling and environmental responsibility. They heard from Dan Schaefer, public affairs manager for Winter Brothers, and Zachary Sicardi, a recycling educator from the Town of Brookhaven, who shared information on how recycling helps protect the environment. Students also learned about the different types of items that can be recycled, why recycling is important and what happens to garbage after it is thrown away. The speakers discussed how recyclable materials are sorted and processed and how those materials can be turned into new products.
