The Bellport High School Jazz Ensemble recently performed at the Empire State Plaza as part of the New York State School Music Association’s Music in Our Schools Month initiative. In addition to performing at the state capitol, students met with local legislators to advocate for Bill S6318 and its Assembly counterpart A6490. The legislation would make music and the arts a statutorily recognized academic subject in New York’s Education Law. Students also toured the New York State Museum and New York State Capitol building. The opportunity was made possible through a generous grant from the South Country Education Foundation.
