Bellport HS senior earns full college scholarship through QuestBridge

Bellport High School senior Jessiah Torres has earned a full, four-year college scholarship to Boston University through the QuestBridge National College Match Scholarship Program.

He is one of 2,550 applicants to earn a QuestBridge scholarship, which connects high-achieving high school seniors from low-income backgrounds with full, four-year scholarships to the nation’s best colleges.

Through the scholarship program, Torres will major in biology on a pre-med tract. He has a dream to become a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Of his accomplishment, Torres said he is thrilled to have earned the scholarship. “They are very selective, so I am happy to have been chosen,” he said. He is looking forward to all the opportunities that Boston University has to offer, including research and internships.

In addition to being academically talented, Torres is president of his school’s National Honor Society, an AP Scholar, and earned an AP Research certificate. He is also a member of his school’s National Science, English, Spanish and Math honor societies and serves as a community service organizer for the National Math Honor Society. Additionally, he is a member of the Faith Club and World of Difference Club and plays varsity tennis. Outside of school, he participates in the Doctors of Tomorrow program, where he shadows doctors in the field.

The South Country Central School District congratulates Jessiah Torres on this outstanding academic accomplishment.
