Bellport High School students earn CPR certification

Forty-one Bellport High School students recently earned CPR certification through the school’s health elective course Adulting 101.

The certification took place during the school day and was embedded into the Adulting 101 curriculum, allowing students to gain hands-on training as part of their regular coursework. This marks the first time students have had the opportunity to become CPR certified through a school-based program.

The course is available to any student who has successfully completed general health, ensuring broad access to this valuable training. Through the certification process, students learned how to respond to cardiac arrest and other medical or first aid emergencies, including how to assess a scene, evaluate a patient and take appropriate action.

“When students become CPR certified, they become ‘capeless heroes,’” teacher William Champlin said. “They are individuals who are capable of saving a life in the event of an emergency and responding calmly and effectively when it matters most.”
