AP African American Studies students learn from college professor

Bellport High School students enrolled in the new AP African American Studies course recently had the privilege of learning from Dr. Zebulon Miletsky, chair and associate professor of Africana Studies at Stony Brook University.

With expertise in modern African American history, civil rights, the Black Power Movement and urban history, Dr. Miletsky guided the students in a thought-provoking discussion on the history of the Reconstruction Era, placing emphasis on the laws and legal doctrines instituted during the era.

“It was an absolute honor to have Dr. Miletsky with us,” said teacher Romelo Green. “Students gained a more nuanced understanding of the Civil Rights Movement and the lasting impact it has on African Americans.”
