In preparing for the implementation of Math in Focus, K-5 elementary teachers participated in professional development provided by Math in Focus Trainers. Training focused on instructional strategies that balance conceptual understanding, visual learning and problem solving. Based on the concrete-pictorial-abstract learning progression and real-world, hands on experiences teachers learned instructional practices that are research-based and focused on classroom learning, discussion and practice
