Superintendent's Corner

Superintendent’s Corner: January 2026

Antonio Santana

Happy New Year! As we welcome 2026, we reflect on the promise and opportunities this new year brings. Even amid challenges, we remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering a culture of growth, achievement, and collaboration—grounded in South Country’s core values of integrity, inclusivity, and excellence.

January marks the heart of the winter season and an important point of transition in the school year. It brings the close of the first semester, offering students an opportunity to reflect on their progress and set goals for the months ahead. Families can play a key role during this time by encouraging strong study habits and continued engagement with learning as we begin the second half of the year.

This month also offers meaningful opportunities for learning and celebration across the district. Bellport Civics Day will provide students with opportunities to engage in civic learning and dialogue. We also look forward to several upcoming winter concerts, including performances at Brookhaven Elementary School and Frank P. Long Elementary School, as well as the Bellport High School Chamber Concert. These events showcase the growth, creativity, and dedication of our student musicians and the strength of our music program.

January is also when we begin our budget presentations for the upcoming school year. As we navigate the financial challenges ahead, we are committed to working collaboratively with all stakeholders—staff, families, and the broader community—to ensure thoughtful planning and transparency. This work includes continued alignment with the District’s three-year recovery plan, which is available on our website. While the path ahead requires difficult decisions, our focus remains on protecting educational opportunities for students and maintaining fiscal responsibility.

As always, it is an honor to serve the South Country Central School District. Thank you for your continued partnership, support, and trust. I wish you and your families a safe, healthy, and successful start to 2026.

Sincerely,
Antonio Santana
