Board of Education

The South Country Board of Education consists of seven members. Members are elected by registered voters of the district for a three year term and serve without pay. The Board represents the residents of the school district. It is the legislative and policy making body responsible for all regulations governing public education within district schools and delegates the overall management of these policies to the Superintendent of Schools as its Chief School Officer.

We believe that as partners, mentors, stakeholders, and community members, we are all empowered to work together in order to provide an academic and emotional safe haven for our students where everyone is heard, valued, and respected.

Priorities

• Provide a safe and secure learning environment that accepts and welcomes all and ensures all children have access to a well-rounded, culturally responsive education that supports their social emotional development during the school day and during co-curricular activities. 
• Support teaching and learning aligned to the NYS Learning Standards, ensuring all students receive skilled instruction leading to growth and the attainment of grade level learning expectations or above. 
• Review and evaluate our education programs and develop a plan to improve programs where needed in time for the upcoming annual budget consideration. Specifically in the areas of: Equity in Education, Educational Technology, and Social Emotional Support for Students and Staff. 
•  Recruit, train and retain faculty and staff that reflects the cultural and linguistic diversity of the South Country Community. 
• Build partnerships in our learning community with all residents, increase opportunities for parent involvement and communication within our schools and our learning community, make appropriate support and workshops available to parents to assist them in supporting their children’s education. 
• Develop a fiscally responsible and transparent budget, maximizing efficiency and economy, ensuring the district is using its resources to deliver the best educational program and meeting our long range planning goals.
