Tri-M Music Honor Society Requirements (BMS)

The Tri-M Music Honor Society at Bellport Middle School is a nationally recognized program that celebrates student achievement in music. Open to dedicated 7th and 8th-grade musicians, Tri-M members must demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a commitment to community service. To be eligible, students must maintain a high GPA in their music classes, actively participate full-time in a school ensemble, participate for a score at NYSSMA, and complete service projects that promote music in the community. Tri-M provides students with opportunities for growth, collaboration, and recognition for their musical and academic dedication.

 

Tri-M Music Honor Society Requirements (BHS)

The purpose of this organization is to recognize the talents and achievements of student musicians. Students are selected for membership in the society of the basis of musicianship, scholarship, character, cooperation, leadership and service to school and community. Applications are accepted each year following the NYSSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival. Selected students participate in performance and service-related activities throughout the school year.

Qualifications:
  1. Students must have performed a NYSSMA level 5 or 6 in the previous school year
  2. Must continue performing level 5/6 solos at NYSSMA in the 10th and 11th grade
  3. Participate in Band/Orchestra/Chorus full time
  4. Complete 9 hours of community service
  5. Maintain a weighted GPA of at least a 90% in all music classes
  6. No referrals in the department
  7. All Tri-M students must participate in all chamber concerts
  8. Must receive a recommendation from his/her ensemble teacher;
  9. Must attend all All-County, LISFA, and All-State festivals that the student is nominated and selected for

When the student can apply and be inducted: Induction is by nomination only for 10th-12th grade music students

Application process: Students will be nominated by the advisor in the fall and then inducted (retroactively) in the spring if they met all requirements.
