Book Borrowing Policy:
Students will be allowed to borrow one book each week. The book is to be returned on their scheduled library day.
When the entire class returns all their books on time the class will be allowed to borrow two books.
If the book is not returned on the scheduled library day, the student will not be allowed to borrow another book until it is returned.
If your child was absent on the scheduled library day, they may come to library the following day to exchange their book.
To renew a library book the child must bring the book to the library on their scheduled day and the book will be checked out to them again.
Lost or damaged books:
If a book is lost or damaged it will be the parents/guardians responsibility to pay for it. The cost of a book will be noted on the overdue notice.
When a book that was paid for is found and is returned to the library in good condition, money will be refunded.
Student book selection:
I am aware that every child's reading ability varies, however, it is not always possible for me to individually select the appropriate level book with each child. The children are encouraged to independently select a book that interests them and that suits their reading ability. If you feel your child needs additional help in selecting an appropriate book, please let me know and I will try my best to accommodate them.
Librarian's book selection:
The books that are purchased for the library are selected through professional book reviews, teacher requests, and recommendations. As a librarian, I try my best to select books that have appropriate content for the elementary school level. However, it is not possible for me to read every book. I will do my best to accommodate anyone who finds a particular book to be unsuitable for their child.
Librarian's Goal:
It is my goal to encourage students to love books and become proficient users of the library and all the wonderful resources it has to offer. As your child progresses through each grade level, I will be teaching them basic library research and literacy skills. The children will become familiar with various genres, will learn how to use dictionaries, encyclopedias, table of contents, glossaries, indexes, and many other important skills including lessons using technology.
I look forward with enthusiasm to helping your child succeed at Verne W. Critz Elementary School!
