Spelling

The spelling words of the week are the words that are assigned in the homework packets. Please study these every night!

Spelling tests will be given on Fridays.

Here are some suggestions to help your child learn the spelling words:

Use magnetic or plastic letters (or make your own on cardboard squares) to spell out words. Scramble the letters, then have your child unscramble them to spell correctly while saying each letter's name.

Make a word ring by writing the words on index cards, punching a hole in top left corner, and placing on a key ring.  Add new words each week.  Test your child's knowledge of the words each night.  A small incentive might serve as motivation (when all words are learned for a particular week, he/she gets to play a game, watch a special show, make a craft, etc.)

Memory: Make two sets of words on index cards to use for memory game. You can review other spelling words also to have more cards.

Post the spelling words in a visible place (refrigerator, toy chest, etc.) for constant exposure.

Find the words in magazines, store fliers, books, etc.
