In our school, the social worker provides a variety of internal and outreach
functions for students. They include: |
- Individual and group
counseling for children with a variety
 of
needs.
- Group counseling for
children of divorced or divorcing parents (Banana Splits)
- Bereavement Groups when
needed
- Support for students
transferring to Brookhaven Elementary School from other districts
- Crisis intervention for
children and parents
- Psycho-educational
classes (push-ins)
- Support orientation
groups for parents new to our school
- Outreach to families in
need
- Liaison outreach with
community organizations

The counseling is school based and helps students to deal
more positively with a variety of emotions in the school setting.
Social workers are supported through district funds and grants from BOCES
and New York State. |
