Brookhaven Elementary School

 Social Work Services

In our school, the social worker provides a variety of internal and outreach functions for students.  They include:
  • Individual and group counseling for children with a variety of needs.
  • Group counseling for children of divorced or divorcing parents (Banana Splits)
  • Bereavement Groups when needed
  • Support for students transferring to Brookhaven Elementary School from other districts
  • Crisis intervention for children and parents

  • Psycho-educational classes (push-ins)
  • Support orientation groups for parents new to our school
  • Outreach to families in need
  • Liaison outreach with community organizations
The counseling is school based and helps students to deal more positively with a variety of emotions in the school setting.  Social workers are supported through district funds and grants from BOCES and New York State.
