The Curtin University Doctorate Program is a wonderful program that is taking place in many locations around the world. Many teachers in Dade County, FL are finishing up their doctorate this year. It has been a very successful program there.
Professors from Curtin University come to Long Island to meet with students for a week in February (during vacation week) and a week after school is ended in June. They offer face-to-face instruction on courses that assist with researching and writing your thesis. After the face-to-face instruction, you continue working on the coursework for the entire semester. You have access to their extensive library. They will ship you books and you can download journal articles, etc. The instructors will assist you via email. They are wonderful to work with and so supportive.
Your thesis must be related to math, science or technology. Someone focusing on literacy might use technology to enhance the literacy skills of students.
You can choose to do an EdD or a PhD. The cost is cheaper than universities in the area, however, the savings does depend on the value of the dollar. It costs about $3500/semester and takes about 4 years which would make the cost about $28,000 rather than $40,000.
Curtin University is ranked 76th in the world. It is even above NYU.
The courses offered to you are: Research Methods, Assessment and Evaluation, Teaching and Learning, Learning Environments, Doctoral Thesis Class.
We can create a support group to help you with your work. If you have questions, you can email speters@southcountry.org or B.Fraser@curtin.edu.au .
