August, 2010

Dear Parents / Guardians and Students:

Welcome to another school year at South Country. I hope all of you are having a wonderful summer. The first day of school is Tuesday, September 7, 2010.

The Board of Education and your South Country Administrative team are working hard to foster pride in our schools. Please be advised that on August 18, 2010, the Board of Education voted to rescind the uniform policy that applied to grades K through 5. However, all students are still required to abide by the student dress code adopted by the Board of Education and to attend school in appropriate attire. Parents and students should be reminded that such attire should not interfere with the operation of the school or infringe upon the general health, safety and welfare of District students or employees.

Packets were sent home to all parents regarding the Progressive Discipline policy, affirmations for the Code of Conduct, Publication and Cell Phone Policies signature form.  The affirmation form must be signed by both you and your child and returned to your building principal by September 13, 2010. The Code of Conduct is available for review at your child’s school or on our district website. Please contact the principal of your child’s school should you have any questions:

Lastly, there are times when the weather will cause schools to close or start later than normal. The decision will generally be made by 5:30 am. All delays and closings will be posted on the district’s website and the district will place a phone call through ConnectEd to your home or cell phone notifying you of the same. The information will also be provided on the following stations: WALK 97.5 FM; WBAB 102.3 FM; WBZO 103.1 FM; WRCN 103.9 FM; WBLI 106.1 FM; and Channel 12 TV News.

I am looking forward to working with you to ensure all our children have a very successful, safe and enjoyable school year.
