Introduction:
Expedition shoe company
recently developed a new sneaker featuring an advanced type of high tech
tread. The bottom of the sneaker will never wear out, no matter how long you
wear them.
The company has come up with a slogan for their new sneaker.
"Explore new territory in
(Explorer's name)
sneakers.
They will take you places you've never been before"
The company wants to name the
sneaker after an early Explorer and they have asked your teacher for help.
They have narrowed it down to eight Explorers and they need your class to
research the Explorers to help them choose the perfect name.

Task:
Your team will research 2 early Explorers.
You will describe their accomplishments by:

Stating what
country the Explorer was working for.

Identifying his
reason for exploring.

Listing 3 items
of information that the Explorer found.

Describing the
successes or accomplishments of the Explorer.

Procedure:
1.
The class will be divided into teams of
four by the teacher. Each team will be assigned 2 explorers to research. 2
students will each research one Explorer and the remaining 2 students in the
team will record the information in a Microsoft Word document.
2.
It would be best if
2 of you worked together, one to locate the information, both of you to read the information,
and the other to type the information into the Word document.
Use the
Explorer Web Quest Fact Sheet to
record your research.
3. The teams
will have time to discuss the information each student found with the other
students in the team. Make sure that each student knows all the information about the
assigned Explorers.
4. Each team will present their report to the class.
5. As a team, pick
the one Explorer you think the sneaker should be named after and explain your
decision during the
classroom presentation.
