History Streak Continues Satchel Johnsen
To Math Team fans: The Middle School Math team continued its successful 2009-10 campaign with victories in meet #3. The eighth grade team extended its lead to 8 points over its nearest rival in division 9. Connor Cipp was a perfect 5 for 5 correctly answered questions and Matt Posch contributed with two correct answers to give us a season’s high total of 7 points earned in a meet. The seventh grade team also held on to its first place one point lead with an impressive 4 questions answered correctly by Jimmy Jankowski. Also contributing to the seventh grade victory were Betty Bruce (1 correct), Erin Gorden (1 correct), Sara Dunbar (2 correct) and Linnzi Sarro (2 correct). Meet #4 is on Jan 12, 2010 at the Oregon Ave. School.
November 9, 2009-December 15, 2009 The Bellport Middle School Student Council and Support Services will be holding a holiday toy/clothing drive to assist families within the South Country School District. On November 9, 2009 until December 15, 2009 we will be collecting unwrapped toys and new clothing. Labeled boxes will be placed near the main entrance of the school to deposit the items. A holiday giving tree with suggestions of items needed will be in the main lobby for your convenience. All donations will be given to the St. Joseph the Worker Church in East Patchogue, NY for distribution to our families. Thank you for your support in helping brighten this holiday season to those in our school community who are in need. The MS math team was very successful in its first
meet. In division 9, the 7th grade “A” team tied for first
place and the 8th grade team finished in first place by
itself and is currently in 4th place in the county. The 8th grade team was led by Connor Cipp who had three points and Caitlyn Thompson who also scored one point.

LEGO Robotics Team
Places #1 FLL combines a hands-on, interactive robotics program with a sports-like atmosphere. Their goal is for elementary and middle school children to experience solving real-world problems by applying math, science and technology. The Bellport Panthers, along with 32 other competing teams were judged in 4 categories including; Technical Review - Robot Programming and Design, Smart Moves- Research Project Theme, Teamwork and Spirit, and Robot Mission Accomplishments. A team of seven members: Ashhad Baber, Thomas Gassner, Katelyn Orlando, Derek Anderson, Devin Watson, Betty Bruce, and Wayne Farmer attended the competition along with their coach, Mr. Craig Surrusco and Assistant Coaches Mr. Chaudry Baber, and Mr. David Gassner. “I am very proud of the students hard work and dedication. We are a rookie team in our first season! To be recognized with this award is a real honor.” The Panthers will advance to the Official Championship Tournament at Longwood High School on Sunday February 28th, 2010. LEGO Championship Tournament at Longwood On Sunday February 28th 2010, the LEGO Robotics Team participated in the Long Island Championship Tournament at Longwood High School in Middle Island. We are proud to announce that our Robotics Team won the 2nd place award for "Best Robot Design". This award is given to the team that demonstrates the most innovative and creative robot design that completes the required mission tasks for the annual "Smart Moves" challenge. Congratulations to Ashhad Baber, Thomas Gassner, Katelyn Orlando, Derek Anderson, Devin Watson, Betty Bruce, and Wayne Farmer. We are very proud of your hard work and dedication. A job well done!
History Team Looks To Repeat Itself
The Bellport Middle
School History Team, the 2 time defending Suffolk County History
League Champions, began the 2009-2010 season right where they left
off. With 2 meets completed Bellport is undefeated and in first
place. The first meet took place in October. Bellport finished the
meet with a total score of 720 points. The margin of victory was
120 points over the second place team and 590 points over the third
place team. The second meet was held on November 19. Once again
Bellport dominated the competition with a score of 820 points. This
gives Bellport a combined score of 1540 points. Bellport is in
first place in its division by 580 points. The team is made up of 6th,
7th, and 8th graders who compete in jeopardy
style format meet. The Suffolk County History League has been in
existence for 36 years. Bellport had their first Championship ever
back in 2007-2008. They were also the Suffolk County History Champs
again in 2008-2009. The members of the team are: Advisor: Mr. Kinigson International Club Clothing Drive The Bellport Middle School International Club will be conducting its annual warm clothing drive to benefit the SCCSD community. We are accepting donations of winter clothing;
coats/hats/gloves/mittens/scarves/sweaters/ We will accept new and used items. We have done this community service project for years and it has been very successful. All clothing goes to students and their family members in the SCCSD community. All donations can be brought to room 150 or contact Rosemary Simone or Kim Rodriguez to pick up any items you may wish to donate. Thank you for your time and consideration in this worthwhile project.
