FPL "Little Doctors"

The Student Council of the Frank P. Long Intermediate School hosted their 1^st annual “Little Doctors” Blood Drive. The South Country community was tremendously generous by donating 51 pints of blood to Long Island Blood Services.

The project is designed to teach younger children about the value of community service and charity. In early February, the Long Island Blood Service made a presentation to the children. They explained the importance of donating blood and the tremendous need for donations in our area.

The Frank P. Long Student Council became the “Little Doctors” for the day. They signed up community members to donate and created posters to help promote their cause. Their greatest impact was on the day of the blood drive. In teams, they worked to greet people as they entered the school. They assisted people in signing up for the drive and aided them after their donation was completed by serving them sweets and juice. The Long Island Blood Service was thrilled with the children’s first attempt at such a task and expressed a desire to make this an annual event at Frank P. Long Intermediate School.

On behalf of Frank P. Long Intermediate School, we would like to thank our student council for their hard work and to the dedicated community members who took time from their personal lives to donate blood.

Frank P. Long's Mock Trial Team

Frank P. Long’s first ever Mock Trial Team competed at Dowling College’s 29^th Annual Mock Trial, sponsored by BOCES. The twelve dedicated students prepared for this court room simulation for four months and their time/effort was evident at the competition. Plaintiff and defense attorneys argued the case of Terry Fink vs. Daryl Claiborne through the questioning of witnesses, presentation of evidence, and preparation of opening & closing statements. Congratulations for an incredible job at the tournament!!

All-Star Music Students

Seven students from Frank P. Long Intermediate School were chosen to participate in the 2012 Division One East All-County Music Festival. This is a huge accomplishment as they were selected from hundreds of nominated students throughout Suffolk County. Our students were required to attend three rehearsals and then perform their concert at Longwood High School. We are SO proud of all of them. Congratulations to our outstanding young musicians!
