Street Honors Our Veterans
In
honor of Veterans Day, third graders in Ms.
Leonardi, Ms. Bartkewicz and Ms. Yee’s classes at
Kreamer Street Elementary School created greeting
cards for veterans who reside at the Long Island
Veterans Home in Stony Brook, NY. After discussing
citizenship and patriotism in class, the students
wrote letters to the veterans thanking them for
risking their lives for our freedom. Many of the
students wanted these veterans to know that they
have not been forgotten. This was a great way for
the students to practice their letter-writing
skills, while showing patriotism and honoring great
Americans at the same time!
Second
Graders Learn About A Pumpkin's Life Cycle
This October the students in Mrs.
Benzie’s 2nd grade class at Kreamer
Street Elementary School, learned everything about a
pumpkin’s life cycle. First the children sang along
to the story Pumpkin, Pumpkin by Jeanne
Titherington and discussed the sequence of a
pumpkin’s life cycle. The children then simulated
the life cycle of the pumpkin by constructing a
paper plate pumpkin and attaching the stages of the
life cycle sequentially on a rope vine. After going
pumpkin picking in the school field, the students
examined the seeds and pulp of a pumpkin and enjoyed
tasting pumpkin seeds. The class saved pumpkin seeds
to plant in the spring, so they can begin the cycle
again.
Fire Prevention Week
The week of October 3rd was Fire
Prevention Week at Kreamer St. Elementary School.
Firefighters from the Bellport Fire department
conducted assemblies and real life simulations on
fire prevention and safety.

Country School District Launches
"Virtual Backpack"
Kreamer Kids Care
Mrs. Dunton’s and Mrs. Zucaro’s first grade class at
Kreamer School has recycled from the entire school
all year long. Besides keeping our planet green, the
class has returned some of the recycled bottles and
cans eligible for $.05 deposits and has collected
$65.00 to be donated to a future Kreamer St. student
who is undergoing chemotherapy. A very special
thanks to Mr.Tom Dunton for returning our bottles
and cans each week. This is a true example that
“KREAMER KIDS CARE’.

Kreamer Street School SDM Hosts Spaghetti Dinner
On April 28th the Kreamer Street Elementary School
Shared Decision Making Team hosted The Annual
Spaghetti Dinner. It was an evening filled with good
food and parent workshops conducted by Kreamer
Street teachers. While the parents were in their
workshops, the students were engaged in structured
activities led by teachers, support staff and
Bellport High School students from the Future
Teachers of America and Interact Clubs. At the
conclusion of the workshops, the school community
gathered in the cafeteria for a Spaghetti Dinner
which was prepared by staff and retirees of the
South Country School District. Music was
provided by students from the Bellport Middle School
orchestra under the direction of Juliette Valenti.
The evening concluded with a raffle drawing to
support the third grade picnic. Click on the photos

The Kreamer Street 3rd Grade Picnic Committee is
pleased to be sponsoring a fundraising raffle event
open to the entire school and community. There are
many wonderful prizes available just waiting for you
to try and win. We will be raffling the prizes on
the evening of Thursday, April 28th at our SDM
Spaghetti Dinner at the Kreamer Street School;
however you do not need to be present to claim your
prize. If you would like to buy a chance or two,
kindly send back to school with your child, the
completed form and the correct amount of CASH for
the tickets no later than Wednesday April

Clap Your
Hands for Handbells
On April 22, Mr.
Carlson came to Kreamer Street Elementary school and
showed all the first
graders
how to play a true handbell used in handbell choirs
all over the world. These
particular handbells are
played in a church handbell choir in Rocky Point, a
choir in which Mr. Carlson performs. Mr. Carlson
showed us all different sized bells including very
small ones, similar to the ones we play in Music
class. The children especially liked the biggest
bell he showed, and were
surprised
at how much it cost! He also taught us about the
hand held chimes that are a part of the choir as
well, and they make a wonderful addition to the
already beautiful sound of the bells. We watched
Mr. Carlson and his group, perform on a video and
were amazed that members of the group could play
more than one bell in each hand. The music was
inspiring and invigorating. Mr. Carlson helped to
prepare the first graders for their handbell
performance on May 5th by giving us great
information about the bells and how these bells are
an important part of musical learning and
appreciation.
Amaryllis
Horse Farm Rescue Pancake Breakfast
Kreamer
staff, students, and faculty have been showing the
character trait of caring by working hard to raise
money to donate to Amaryllis Horse Farm in
Sagaponack for the last month or so. This farm
helps rescue horses from numerous situations that
could cause harm to these beautiful animals. They
are in dire need of money for food, board, and
health
services in order to keep them healthy and happy.
We have done bake sales, bracelets sales, coffee cup
cozy sales, chuck a buck and more. The most recent
one however, and probably the most profitable was
the Pancake Breakfast held on Sunday, May 17th
at the South Country Ambulance on Montauk Highway.
At the breakfast
we rose over $600 for the horses and had a boat load
of food and fun. We would like to thank Mr. Greg
Miglino and the South Country Ambulance for letting
us borrow the facilities. Next, we extend our thanks
to all the South Country Ambulance staff who helped
us get what ever we needed throughout the event. We
would also like to thank all the Kreamer Street
Staff for coming and helping to cook, clean, set up,
and what ever else we could throw their way. Last,
but not least, we would like to thank all the
families who came to help support these beautiful
animals, and we hope you enjoyed the food and
festivities at the Pancake Breakfast.

Hip
Pickles Drum Band
In celebration of our students hard work all year
long , the PTA invited the world renown Hip Pickles
Drum Band to perform for the students as a reward.
The Hip Pickles Band is a high energy interactive
percussion duo from Long Island, New York.
During the performance students were invited on
stage to dance and play percussion instruments for
the audience. Mr. Clark and many teachers were
also asked to join in by demonstrating their rhythm
and musical talents.
Bellport
Middle School Reading Buddies Visit
Bellport Middle School students from Ms.
Napolitano's class came to the Kreamer Street
Library to buddy read with students to celebrate
National
Poetry Month in April. In addition to sharing
fun poems from authors like Shel Silverstein and
Jack Prelutsky, Middle School students shared poems
that they wrote. Pictured are 6th grade
student Cristyl Colon and Kindergarten student
Keyonte Rountree. Thank you to our Middle
School buddies for making reading fun!
Local
Author and Poet Visits Our School
Poet Darren Sardelli visited Kreamer Street School
through a
South Country Education Foundation
grant written by the Verne W. Critz teachers and
shared with the Kreamer Street. Thank you Verne
W.
Critz teachers for showing that character counts at
South Country! Mr. Sardelli was able to conduct
writing workshops with our students where his funny
poetry inspired our Kreamer students to write silly
poems of their own.

PARP Finale Magic Show
The
PTA-sponsored program called "Parents as
Reading Partners" took place throughout the month of
March. The theme for the PARP program was
"Discover the Magic of Books". Students and
their families read for 15 minutes each day.
Weekly reading logs and contracts were signed to
encourage daily participation. As a reward for
reaching their reading goals, Mr. Clark had a
special surprise for the students. He became the
rabbit in the magic hat! Thanks to the PTA,
the students were also treated to an extra special
magical assembly.
Kindergartener's Capture the Signs of Spring
The students in Mrs.
Wittmann's kindergarten class learned how to use the
student digital cameras. These cameras were
purchased for the students through a grant from the
South Country Education Foundation. The
students took a walk around the school looking for
signs of spring. We hope you enjoy the their

Annual
PTA Sponsored Book Trade
The Book Trade is an annual
PTA sponsored event held during the student's lunch
time. The students bring in their gently loved
books to share and trade. This year the PTA
supplemented new Scholastic chapter books in order
to have enough books for the higher level students.
After the event, the extra books were placed in the
classroom libraries. Thank you PTA for hosting
this enriching event!
The 4th Annual Spaghetti Dinner
On
Weds., Feb 4th, the Kreamer Street Shared
Decision Making Team and volunteers hosted an
evening filled with good food and parent workshops
for our Kreamer Street families. Kreamer Street's
extraordinary chefs, Tom & Sue Brienza and Tom
& Fran Dunton, cooked delicious spaghetti with
homemade sauce for everybody. Parents were invited
to attend two workshops while students participated
in fun music, art and character building
activities. Many thanks to all of our faculty and
parent volunteers. Once again, the spaghetti
dinner was an overwhelming success!
Visiting Author coming to Kreamer Street
Children’s author Darren
Sardelli will be visiting Kreamer Street on Monday,
March 23rd and Wednesday, March 25th.
He will have two assemblies for all grades and will
be conducting workshops for 2nd and 3rd
grade students. His visit is made possible by a
grant from the
South Country Education Foundation
that was written by the Verne W. Critz and Kreamer
