CHARACTERCOUNTS!
at Bellport Middle School

The Bellport Middle School Character Counts! Committee is hard at work this year.  We had a very successful Character Counts! Week in October.  Each month the faculty and staff at Bellport Middle School recommend students for Bellport Middle School Character Counts! Students of the Month.  Each student receives a gift from the committee of a Pillar bookmark, Pillar wristband and a Character Counts! bumper sticker for their parents.  We conducted two food drives to benefit local food pantries.  New signs and banners decorate the halls, stairwells and lunchrooms.  There is a new sense of responsibility for ones actions and respect flowing in the school.  Students and teachers participated in the Homecoming parade and a Character Counts! flag flies under our American flag in front of the school, weather permitting.  Students, as well as adults, are striving to become better people.  We have Pillar shirt days once a month and we are currently working on a water bottle recycling program and a partnership with Belhaven Nursing Home to do community service.

The South Country Education Foundation awarded a grant to purchase starter kits for the Character Counts! Program at the Middle School.  This national program fosters good character in youth.
