Homework

Homework is an integral part of learning and plays an important role in your child's educational success. Please work with your child every night to help complete his/her homework.

Homework packets will go home every Monday and should be returned by Friday. In addition to the written homework, students are expected to read for at least 20 minutes each night. Below are some suggestions to help your child get the best out of his/her reading experience:

  Before Reading:

  • Make predictions

  • Do a 'picture walk'

 During Reading:

  • Talk about strategies being used: Sound out, Look at pictures, Skip the word, Find Small word inside bigger ones

  • Stop and summarize what was read so far

  • Stop to make predictions

After Reading (Choose one or two activities):

  • Summarize the story

  • Evaluate: Did you like it? Why or why not?

  • Identify characters, setting, problem, solution

  • Identify beginning, middle, end
