Happy New
Year! January is a very busy month at Brookhaven Elementary.
Our Character Counts Pillar is Fairness. Each family should
have received an orange flyer where students are asked to write
and draw pictures about what Fairness means to them. Students’
work will be displayed around the school and read during morning
announcements. It is truly inspiring to see so many of our
youngsters demonstrating good character. Many times throughout
each school day I personally witness children treating each
other with dignity and respect. Character certainly has taken
hold at Brookhaven.
The
Brookhaven PTA is holding their January meeting on January 12 at
7 pm. This month the PTA has invited Susan Beltrani from “Hands
on Science” to do a presentation called “Science Fair…..Oh My!”
The presentation is designed to provide fun and creative ways to
do a science fair project with items that you may already have
in your home. In light of Brookhaven’s upcoming Science Fair in
April, this evening will be very helpful and fun too! Please
save the date!
The reading
department will be holding an evening of Poetry for parents of
students whom they provide reading instruction to. This will be
held on January 14 at 7 pm. Please look for more information
regarding this event.
Our third
grade students will be going on a field trip to Bellport Middle
School to see this year’s musical, “Beauty and the Beast”. This
event is a wonderful way for our elementary students to get a
flavor for the theater arts right here in their own home town.
We are excited that our grade 3 students will have an
opportunity to attend the play and perhaps get a chance to see
an older brother, sister or friend perform.
Grade 1
students will participate in an “in-house” field trip funded by
our PTA called, “Germs” on January 14th and 15th. This
presentation is designed to teach youngsters healthy habits of
hand-washing and the prevention of the spread of germs. Thank
you PTA!
Please
continue to send your children to school appropriately dressed
for the cold weather. Recess will continue to be held outdoors
(weather permitting) and warm clothing is necessary.
Again, please
accept my warmest wishes for a happy, healthy new year!
