AMERICAN FLAG
I sail so high
Oh just watch
me fly
I make that
ruffling sound
I mark our
ground
For America I
sail
My country
In the wars
Throughout the
seas
Of the navy
Oh America I

Brookhaven
On Thursday, February 28, 2013

Another successful Brookhaven
Fundraiser through Kids Art Fairs!

On Tuesday
February 12th we had another
successful fundraiser through
Kids Art Fairs, a branch of
Scholastic books. For the past
several years we have displayed
art work from all of our
students - pre-kindergarten
through third grade - by
transforming our gymnasium into
an art gallery. Students and
their families are invited to
view the work and enjoy
refreshments generously supplied
by the PTA.
Money is raised through the sale of picture
frames and products created
using student drawings and
paintings. Parents can
order items such as coffee mugs,
key chains, tote bags, and even
cell phone cases. All proceeds
are donated to the Lighthouse
Mission which services families
in our own community.
Much thanks is extended to
our parent volunteers Mrs.
Gentzel, Mrs. Broillet, Mrs.
Edmondson, and Mrs. Glynn
for helping out as well as
former Brookhaven students
Isabela Gonzalez and Ramona
Henderson.

Wildlife Defenses
On
Dec. 11th and 12th our 3rd grade
students were treated to a
visit by the DEC. Students
learned all about amazing defenses
animals use to avoid being
eaten. Educational props encouraged children to look at
unusual animals and discover
their defensive strategies and
adaptations. A narrated
power-point presentation offered
colorful examples; and props
including horns, scales, shells,
quills and fur. Topics included
camouflage, armor, predator-prey
relationships, warning colors,
venom, and spines, to name a
few.
Brookhaven Elementary teachers
recognized through Teacher
Appreciation program

On Thursday, October 18, 2012,
employees from Sam’s Club
visited Brookhaven Elementary
School to recognize the teachers
through their Teacher
Appreciation program. Sam’s
Club provided breakfast and
refreshments for the entire
staff and 20 teachers were the
lucky recipients of a $50.00
Gift Card from Sam’s Club. The
20 teachers were randomly
selected to receive the cards
through a raffle drawing. The
Teacher Appreciation program
recognizes teachers’ for their
hard work and dedication. Once
a year, the employees of Sam’s
Club choose one local K-5 school
to recognize. Nicole McMillian,
Membership Assistant Manager and
Jessica King of Sam’s Club,
attended the breakfast along
with Assistant Principal, Tara
Cataldo. Nicole McMillian and
her daughter were previously
students of the Brookhaven
Elementary School.
Congratulations to the teachers
of Brookhaven Elementary School!
Thanks you to Sam’s Club for the
breakfast and twenty $50.00 gift
