MATHEMATICS:

The new Math standards place a great deal of emphasis on problem solving and higher level thinking skills.  The children are encouraged to use math manipulatives to gain visual and “hands-on” understanding of the math concepts introduced this year.  The curriculum will cover some of the following concepts:

·        Addition and subtraction

·        Calendar concepts

·        Place Value

·        Time and Money

·        Fact families

·        Word Problems

·        Measurement

·        Graphing

These skills will be introduced at different times of the year and revisited and built upon as the year progresses.

At home, please encourage your children to tell time using the old fashion analog clocks (having to read hour and minute hands) as well as counting money and problem solving (addition and subtraction)  Food is a great toolJ
