Third grade music classes are introduced to staff notation by playing the soprano recorder.  Our PTA purchases recorders every year so that each student has his or her own instrument.  In an effort to teach the responsibility of having a musical instrument, each student learns to care for a recorder.  At the end of the school year, the recorders are theirs to keep.  Those students who are in the Third Grade Chorus have the opportunity in the spring concert to perform for an audience on their new instruments.  It is a great way to prepare the students for the instrumental music program in fourth grade.
