Special Programs 2003-2004 During the fall of 2003 third grade students had the opportunity to learn about Asian Brush painting through a grant funded by the South Country Education Foundation. The grant was used for bamboo brushes, rice paper, and Sumi instruction from Korean artist Sung Sook-Setton. Ms. Sook-Setton came to the third grade art classes for one week to teach about Sumi Painting. Ms. Setton brought some of her own work for students to see and hear about. Students also learned about Chinese painter Chi' Pah Shih and Japanese artist Chiura Obata. Classroom teachers taught various activities on Asian culture to complete this unit. Second grade students have enjoyed monoprinting using a printing press purchased through a grant for the May Endow Memorial Fund. This grant was used to purchase a printing press, water soluble inks, Plexiglass plates, and various other materials for printing. Each student also created a book to sequence and illustrate the printing process. |
